Concrete Polishing

Mechanical concrete polishing for garages, patios, driveways and commercial floors: a durable, refined finish that holds up to daily wear.

Polishing turns the concrete you already have into the finished surface. Rather than adding a coating on top, the slab itself is ground and polished in stages with progressively finer abrasives until it reaches the sheen you want, from a soft satin to a high gloss.

The result is a dense, smooth surface that is easier to keep clean and that does not depend on a topcoat staying bonded. It works on both new concrete and older slabs that need renewed shine and strength.

Where it works well

  • Kitchens and living areas on a concrete slab
  • Garage and shop floors
  • Basements and interior slabs
  • Patios, walkways and driveways
  • Commercial and retail floors

How polishing works

  1. Assess the slab

We look at the condition of the concrete, including cracks, stains and any old coatings.

  2. Grind

The surface is opened and leveled with coarse abrasives.

  3. Polish in stages

Progressively finer abrasives bring the surface to the sheen you choose.

  4. Protect

Finishing steps help the polished surface resist wear and stains.

Existing paint, sealers and adhesives may need to be removed before polishing. The condition of the slab also affects how it looks when finished, and we will walk you through what to expect. If you would rather add color and texture, see epoxy and decorative flake flooring. If you want protection without changing the surface, see concrete sealing.

Common questions

What is the difference between polished concrete and epoxy?

Polishing finishes the concrete itself. Epoxy is a coating system applied on top of the concrete, and flake systems add color, texture and grip.

Can you polish a kitchen floor?

Yes, where the kitchen floor is a concrete slab. Polished concrete is a durable, easy-to-clean finish for kitchens and living areas, and we check the slab first so we can tell you what to expect.

Can older concrete be polished?

Often, yes. It depends on the condition of the slab, and we assess it before recommending anything.
