Pressure and Soft Washing

We match the technique to the material: soft washing for delicate surfaces like roofing and siding, pressure washing for concrete and masonry.

Dirt, mold, mildew and algae build up fast on exterior surfaces in the mountains, where shade, humidity and tree cover keep things damp. Washing them away is simple in theory, but the wrong pressure on the wrong surface does real damage.

That is why we use two methods. Soft washing relies on low pressure and a cleaning solution that breaks down growth at the source, which makes it the right choice for roofing, siding and other delicate surfaces. Pressure washing uses water pressure to lift dirt from hard, durable surfaces like concrete and masonry. Each job gets the method that suits its material.

What we wash

  • Siding with green, black or gray buildup
  • Roofs with algae, moss or dark streaking
  • Decks and exterior wood that look dingy or slick
  • Concrete driveways, patios and walkways
  • Pavers, stone and masonry before sealing

How we approach it

  1. Identify the surface

What the surface is made of decides how much pressure it can take, so we start there.

  2. Choose the method

Soft washing for roofing and siding, pressure washing for concrete and masonry.

  3. Clean and rinse

We remove dirt, mold and mildew buildup and rinse the surface thoroughly.

Washing is often the first step before sealing or staining. If your surface also needs protection, see concrete sealing, paver sealing or wood deck staining.

Common questions

What is the difference between pressure washing and soft washing?

Pressure washing uses higher water pressure to blast dirt off durable surfaces. Soft washing uses low pressure with a cleaning solution that breaks down mold, mildew and algae, so it is gentler on roofing, siding and other surfaces that high pressure can damage.

Will pressure washing damage my siding?

It can. High pressure can force water behind siding and mark softer surfaces. That is why we soft wash siding and roofing and save pressure washing for hard surfaces.
